You can slow down the aging process though and without spending a fortune on miracle products, creams, and surgical procedures. Here are three tips to help you get back your youthful glow almost overnight.

Get Enough Sleep every Night

Sleep is one of those necessities in life whose importance is often overlooked. The old adage, “Get your Beauty Sleep” actually has some merit to it. When your body is sleeping it is in its restorative state. As you sleep cell regeneration increases. It is this regeneration process that makes skin look smoother and minimizes fine lines.

By getting at least seven to eight hours of uninterrupted sleep per night, you allow your body’s regeneration process to do its job and as such you slow down the aging process

Hydrate Regularly

Next to sleep, water is your skins best friend. When skin is dry it shows every wrinkle, line, and dark spot. Since your skin is made up of 64 percent water it is vital to healthy skin to drink at least 64 ounces of water per day.

In addition to drinking enough water, you should also hydrate your skin from the outside; protecting it from harsh environmental elements such as wind, sun, and dry temperatures that cause your complexion to look dull, dry, and saggy. Using a daily moisturizer that contains SPF will create a barrier against these elements and protect it from sun damage.

As well as using a daily moisturizer you should gently clean your face at night and then apply a more substantial moisturizing night cream; since your skin will absorb it more completely as you sleep.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals and too much Sun Exposure

Yes, everyone wants to have the perfect golden tan. Unfortunately, the worst thing you can do for your skin is sun bathe. Instead of spending hours laying in the sun or tanning beds trying to achieve that golden glimmer; try one of the many self-tanning lotions on the market. Granted these lotions left a lot to be desired when they first found their way to the marketplace. However, in recent years manufacturers have developed much better products that create the look you are striving for. There is also the spray tan option available that lasts longer, and provides more color and shade options than most lotions or creams do.

When exposing your skin to harsh chemicals such as chlorine, make sure to use a quality moisturizing sunscreen before entering the pool. This helps keep the skin from absorbing these harmful chemicals. Once you have left the chemically treated water you will need to thoroughly wash your face with a gentle cleanser to remove any remnants of chlorine and other pool chemicals that will dry and damage skin; then follow it up with a gentle moisturizer.

Growing old gracefully isn’t magic. It simply takes a bit of time, common sense, and effort to keep your skin looking young, bright, and refreshed.
